Artist Bio
Moving from Shanghai to Vancouver, and now studying in Houston, Martin Xie is a multidisciplinary artist. Having meddled with painting, photography, and fashion for several years, he is confident in his spontaneous working process and is unafraid to mix different, seemingly contradictory elements into one piece of art.

He reads too much about popular culture and knows the SSENSE catalog by heart.
Statement
​
I like to work with a good light source and a rich colour palette. For me, less is not more, so I try to add elements from different eras or media sources even when I'm just making a simple painting. I am especially inspired by surrealism -- by the way the lines between reality and imagination bend and blur. You can often find abstract expressions in my realistic artworks or vice versa.
